A personal AI operating layer for the Mac. One command bar, local-first data, and intelligent routing across local and cloud models — with your private files kept exactly where they belong: private.
Equal North is a personal research studio — a place to build software for its own sake, and write down what I learn along the way.
Nothing here is for sale. Each project exists because something I use every day should work better than it does — this is where I build it and see what happens.

Customize your perfect workspace with drag-and-drop panels. Track tasks, check weather, stay focused with timers, and more — all in one beautiful interface.
Innovative products designed to elevate your workspace and lifestyle. EchoDesk is the first: a productivity panel for your desk, running on its own separate computer — a dedicated home for focus tools that doesn't compete for space on the screen you already live in.
An AI coding assistant — built, then abandoned. Kept here as a record of a dead end, not a pitch.
Build logs and research notes on whatever's on the bench — posted as things are actually built, dead ends included.

"Equal" isn't just a name. Interfaces stay even-handed: no dark patterns, no noise, nothing fighting for your attention.
Your data starts on your machine and leaves only when you send it. Sync is a feature, not a requirement.
One person, no committees. Every feature earns its place or gets cut. The result is software that feels light because it is.
Plain formats, boring dependencies, honest engineering. Tools you can still open in ten years.
No launch theatrics. Things ship when they're ready, and they're ready when they work.
The compass check for every decision: does this make the thing more useful? If not, it doesn't go in.
Equal North is a person: EJ Quigley. Not an LLC, not an org chart, no sales team. Just a passion for software that help my daily life.
During the day EJ handles school, and keeps devices, networks, and people running in IT. Nights and weekends, that same instinct. Make it work, make it simple, make it reliable. The name carries my initials quietly, points to the Northeast where I grew up, where the work happens, and holds the standard everything here is measured against: balanced, precise, true.
This isn't a business. Nothing here is for sale, and there's no roadmap promising what's next, it's a teen having fun providing public workbench and a research logs that are honest by being visible.
This is a one-person research studio, not a business — nothing here is for hire. If a project or a write-up resonates, or you just want to compare notes, I'd genuinely like to hear from you.
